Contact Lens Exams
Would you like to experience the freedom and convenience of wearing contact lenses? If so, our office offers a specialized contact lens exam that is the first step in the fitting process.
During the exam, Dr. Johnson will perform multiple diagnostic steps to determine the best type of contact lens for your individual needs. The contact lens evaluation process is both a science and an art, and requires a high level of expertise and experience on the part of the optometrist. The fitting process includes additional steps and tests, along with setting you up in diagnostic lenses and all follow-up care.
Before your appointment, consider your vision goals and lifestyle. Do you want your contacts to help with a specific vision problem or for specific tasks like sports? Do you have difficulty touching your eyes? Do you want to change the color of your eyes? Dr. Johnson may ask these questions and more to determine the best modality of contact lens for you.
Our office stocks diagnostic lenses for fitting purposes, so you will be able to try on a pair of lenses during the initial contact lens exam. If you are a new contact lens wearer, you will also receive training on insertion, removal, and cleaning of contact lenses.
After trying on the diagnostic lenses, Dr. Johnson will perform additional testing. You will be able to take the diagnostic lenses home with you to wear for a week before returning for a follow-up contact lens evaluation appointment. This follow-up appointment is an important step in finalizing your contact lens prescription, as it allows Dr. Johnson to evaluate how the lenses interact with your eye chemistry. In some cases, additional follow-up appointments may be necessary to ensure the most accurate and comfortable vision.
Please inform our office that you’re interested in contact lenses when you schedule your exam to allow extra time for the fitting process and any necessary follow-up appointments. An additional fee for the contact lens evaluation may apply, depending on the level of difficulty.
