AUTOREFRACTION EYE EXAM
At iCare Family Vision, our experienced eye doctor, Dr. Johnson, utilizes the latest technology to ensure accurate and efficient eye exams. One of the tools used is the autorefractor, which is a highly precise and scientifically validated device that measures the refractive error of the eye. During the exam, you will be asked to rest your face in a chin rest and focus on a distant image inside the machine. The autorefractor will then determine the lens power required for your eye to accurately focus light on your retina, providing Dr. Johnson with a baseline prescription in a quick and accurate manner. This is especially useful for patients who may have difficulty sitting still, paying attention, or interacting with the doctor during a manual refraction. REFRACTION EYE EXAM
A refraction is an essential part of the eye exam that helps our experienced eye doctor, Dr. Johnson, determine your precise eyeglass prescription. During this manual refraction, Dr. Johnson will use an instrument called a phoropter and ask you to view an eye chart or other testing image through a series of lenses. By asking you about how you perceive the images through each lens, Dr. Johnson will be able to fine-tune the lens power until a final prescription is reached.
The benefits of this process are many-fold. The manual refraction provides the most accurate and personalized prescription for your vision needs. It also allows Dr. Johnson to detect other vision issues that may not be identified by automated tests, such as binocular vision disorders. Additionally, this process allows for a more in-depth evaluation of your overall eye health. Experience the benefits of a comprehensive and personalized eye exam at iCare Family Vision.
SLIT-LAMP EYE EXAM
When it comes to examining the health of your eyes during the eye exam, Dr. Johnson uses a slit lamp, also known as a biomicroscope, to get a highly magnified and detailed view of the structures of your eye. This allows her to detect any signs of infection, disease, or other conditions that may not be visible during a standard eye exam.
The slit lamp examination is a critical part of the eye exam. It allows Dr. Johnson to evaluate the health of the cornea, iris, lens, and retina. It also helps detect early signs of conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. Additionally, the slit lamp is also used to monitor the progress of any eye conditions or diseases that have been previously diagnosed. With this detailed examination, Dr. Johnson can provide early detection, diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions, ensuring the best possible outcome for your vision. DILATION EYE EXAM
One of the tests Dr. Johnson may perform during your exam is to dilate your pupils with special drops. This will allow her to get a better view of your eye's internal structures and check for any signs of disease or infection. The drops usually take about 10 to 15 minutes to start working, and once your pupils are dilated, Dr. Johnson will use a variety of instruments to look through your enlarged pupils.
It's important to note that after the dilation, your eyes may be more sensitive to light and your near vision may be temporarily blurry for about 4-6 hours. That's why we recommend you bring sunglasses to wear after the eye exam and avoid any up-close work immediately after your dilation. But don't worry, these side effects are temporary and you'll be back to normal in no time.
At iCare Family Vision, our experienced eye doctor, Dr. Johnson, will make sure that you feel comfortable and well-informed throughout the entire eye exam process. Trust us to take care of your vision needs and give you the best possible eye exam experience.
GLAUCOMA TESTING EYE EXAM
Gone are the days of the uncomfortable "puff of air" test for measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) during a glaucoma screening. At our practice, we use the state-of-the-art Icare tonometer, an easy-to-use instrument that provides accurate and painless IOP measurements. With its light touch to the cornea, the test is quick, effortless, and requires no drops or anesthetic. This non-invasive method of measuring IOP has revolutionized early detection and control of glaucoma, making routine screenings more comfortable for our patients. OTHER EYE EXAM TESTS
In some cases Dr. Johnson may recommend other, more specialized eye tests during the eye exam.
